About the Department of Finance and Banking

The Department of Finance and Banking at Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for a successful career in the world of finance and banking. Our department offers an education supported by practical applications as well as theoretical knowledge. With our strong academic staff, modern educational facilities, and collaborations with the industry, we prepare our students for the future. During their education, our students gain financial analysis and management skills, banking and financial market knowledge, problem-solving and decision-making competencies, technological proficiencies, and communication and leadership skills. Our graduates have job opportunities in a wide range, including the banking sector, financial institutions, public institutions, and the private sector. They can work in various positions in public and private banks, insurance companies, investment companies and financial consulting firms, public institutions such as the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, the Central Bank, finance departments of companies, accounting and auditing firms. In addition, our graduates have the opportunity to pursue an academic career by doing master's and doctoral degrees in related fields.
 

Our department updates its course curricula in line with academic and market-oriented developments and includes courses such as "Artificial Intelligence Applications" and "Crypto Assets" in its teaching plans, thus contributing to our students having the knowledge and equipment required by the age. In our department, different opportunities and facilities are offered to our students. In this context, our students are given the opportunity to study double major and minor in different departments at our University and to receive a diploma if they successfully complete their education in different disciplines. In addition to these opportunities, our department's students can study at universities abroad with which our University has an agreement under the Erasmus+ program or do internships in different sectors. Also, our department offers an "Optional Internship" opportunity in the country for our students to gain work experience before graduation. Our department attaches importance to social and cultural activities as well as academic activities. In this context, various social, cultural, and sports activities are carried out during the term by the "Finance Community" established within the Department of Finance and Banking, thus enhancing our students' personal development and team-working skills.

Our program carries the mission of providing its students with a quality education that meets the needs of today and prepares them for the future, gaining the competence to add value to their fields by blending professional knowledge and skills with leadership and responsibility, also fostering graduates who are open to continuous learning, contribute to field knowledge with original and quality research, promote scientific research and convey knowledge to society, focused on human values, sensitive to the environment, and supportive of disadvantaged groups. 

 

Vision

The vision of the Finance and Banking Department is to be a department that educates banking/finance candidates equipped with current knowledge, skills and abilities in the field of banking and finance with its current educational practices and physical and social opportunities offered to its students, and that is primarily preferred by the young potential who want to receive finance and banking education among our country's higher education institutions.

Program Educational Objectives - Program Learning Outcomes

PROGRAM EDUCATION OBJECTIVES

1)     Employed in the field of finance and banking, in the public and private sector, and working efficiently at different levels,

2)     Developing his/her professional career within regional and national institutions in the field of finance and banking,

3)     Working in finance institutions as an operations officer, expert, director, consultant, manager, etc., with authorities such as financial analysis, strategy determination, budget management, and directing the overall financial performance of the company,

4)     Committed to the principle of lifelong learning, continuing his/her academic, professional and personal development with a critical and questioning perspective, sensitive to people, society and nature,

5)     Training graduates of finance and banking program who prioritize the values and interests of society with professional ethics and social responsibility awareness, and contribute to regional and national development.


 

       PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES

1)     Can define both basic and current concepts in the field of finance and banking.

2)     Can explain the general functioning of financial markets and institutions and developments related to the relevant legislation.

3)     Can explain the basic principles of financial statements, accounting and economy.

4)     Can interpret financial and economic indicators, analyze the causes and consequences of financial crises and compare the products and services of different financial institutions.

5)     Can analyze financial problems with critical thinking and decision-making skills, approach financial phenomena objectively with appropriate methodologies and make rational financial decisions.

6)     Can perform data analysis and modeling using financial analysis techniques.

7)     Can take part in financial processes using team work skills and communicate financial information to different audiences effectively.

8)     Can complete tasks in a planned manner using time effectively.

9)     Can follow innovations in financial products and services and continuously update his/her knowledge.

10)  Can continue his/her career in cooperation with stakeholders in the professional field.

11)  Can provide the opportunity to reach the B1 level of the European Language Portfolio in a foreign language to follow information related to his/her field and communicate with stakeholders.

12)  Develops current strategies against the problems encountered in the business field of the sector in which he/she is located and can provide effective governance using appropriate technology.

13)  Can act honestly and responsibly in financial markets, adhering to ethical values.
